Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) set out the conditions for using AskStoria (the “Service”), provided by AskStoria (an individually operated service; “we”). Please agree to these Terms before using the Service. This English text is a translation for convenience. If it differs from the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
1. The Service
- On the Service you can read history stories told with pictures and sources, ask questions about the story you are reading, and look back at the people and terms you met in your collection. Answers to questions are written by AI from sources.
- The Service is free. The number of questions you can ask each week is limited, and the Service tells you when you reach the limit.
2. Accounts
- You can read stories without an account. You need an account to ask questions. When you create an account, we ask you to agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
- You are responsible for keeping your username and password safe. Forgotten passwords cannot be reset.
- Do not let anyone else use your account, and do not transfer it.
- If you are a minor, get a parent’s or guardian’s consent before signing up.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleted accounts and records cannot be restored.
3. AI answers
- Answers to questions are written automatically by AI from sources. We do not check each one.
- Answers may contain errors, inaccuracies or outdated information. Check anything important against the sources shown with the answer.
- Do not use answers in place of advice from medical, legal, financial or other professionals.
4. What you write in questions
- Do not include personal information about yourself or others, or anything you want to keep secret, in your questions. Questions are sent to outside AI providers to write answers (Privacy Policy, section 3).
- We may use questions and answers to provide and improve the Service.
5. Prohibited conduct
You must not:
- break the law or act against public order and morals;
- put excessive load on our servers or network, or access them without authorization;
- use programs to fetch pages or answers of the Service automatically in bulk;
- get around the question limit, for example by using several accounts;
- use someone else’s account or pretend to be someone else;
- infringe anyone’s copyright, privacy or other rights;
- interfere with the operation of the Service; or
- do anything similar to the above.
6. Rights
- The rights to the stories’ text, structure, figures and screens belong to us or to their rightful owners.
- Each image and source used in the Service is shown with its source and rights (public domain, Creative Commons and so on). You may use them under the conditions shown.
- Do not copy, republish or distribute the Service’s text or screens beyond private use or quotation permitted by law.
- You may freely use the text of answers for private study and similar purposes. Images and quoted sources in answers are subject to the conditions shown with each.
7. Suspension
If you break these Terms, or if it is needed to keep the Service safe, we may stop your use or delete your account without notice.
8. Changes, interruptions and ending the Service
- We may change the Service or stop it temporarily for maintenance or failures.
- We may end the Service. If we do, we will announce it in the Service as far in advance as we can.
9. Warranties and liability
- We do not guarantee that the Service or its answers are accurate or complete, that they suit your purpose, or that the Service will be available without interruption.
- If you suffer damage in connection with the Service, except where we acted intentionally or with gross negligence, our liability is limited to the direct and ordinary damage you actually suffered.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms as permitted by the Civil Code of Japan. When we do, we will announce the changes and the date they take effect in the Service before that date.
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute about the Service will be brought exclusively before the district court with jurisdiction over the operator’s address as the court of first instance.
